We recover data from 3.5-inch desktop drives, 2.5-inch laptop drives and server drives from every manufacturer: Seagate, Western Digital, Toshiba, HGST and Samsung, on SATA, SAS and older IDE interfaces.
Hard drive faults we recover from
- Clicking, ticking or grinding noises: usually failed read/write heads
- Beeping or buzzing: often stuck heads or a seized motor
- Drive not detected, or detected with the wrong size
- Very slow access, freezing and “bad sector” errors
- Firmware faults, common on some Seagate and WD models
- Accidentally formatted drives and lost partitions
- Dropped drives and drives knocked while running
- Burnt circuit boards after a power surge
What happens to your drive
We diagnose the fault without stressing the drive. Electronic and firmware faults are repaired on the bench. Head and motor failures are repaired in a cleanroom using matching donor parts. The drive is then imaged with hardware that reads healthy areas first and comes back for damaged ones, so the most data is captured before anything else can go wrong.
Don’t open the drive, freeze it or tap it. These internet tips cause scratched platters, which are the hardest failures to recover from.
How it works
Book online or call, and we collect the drive or you ship it to us. An engineer evaluates it, tells you what can be recovered and gives you a fixed quote. Recovery only starts when you approve it, and we work from a copy of the drive, never your only original.
Questions we get asked
My drive clicks. Is the data gone?
Usually not. Clicking normally means the heads have failed, and the data on the platters is still there. The sooner the drive is switched off, the better the result.
Can you recover a drive that was dropped?
Yes, in most cases. Dropped drives often need a head replacement in the cleanroom. Don’t keep plugging it in to check.
Do you recover old IDE drives?
Yes. We still recover data from IDE and early SATA drives from older computers.
