A failed RAID usually stops a business, so we treat it as urgent. We recover data from arrays of any size and level, from two-drive mirrors to large server and storage systems, on hardware controllers and software RAID.
RAID levels and systems
- RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, plus JBOD and spanned volumes
- Dell PowerEdge (PERC), HPE ProLiant (Smart Array), Lenovo and Supermicro servers
- Windows Storage Spaces, Linux mdadm and LVM, ZFS
- Synology SHR, QNAP, Drobo BeyondRAID and other NAS formats
- VMware VMFS, Hyper-V and Proxmox storage holding virtual machines
Common RAID failures
- Two drives failed in a RAID 5
- A rebuild that failed or stopped partway
- Controller failure, or the array configuration was lost
- Drives pulled or put back in the wrong order
- Array re-initialised or overwritten by mistake
- Ransomware that encrypted the volume
Stop before you rebuild. Don’t force a degraded array online, don’t start a rebuild onto a new drive, and don’t re-create the array. Label each drive with its slot number, power the system down and call us. A wrong step here can make the data unrecoverable.
How we recover a RAID
We image every member drive, repairing any that have failed, then rebuild the array virtually from the images. Your original drives are never written to. We check the most important folders, databases or virtual machines with you before copying everything out.
How it works
Book online or call, and we collect the drive or you ship it to us. An engineer evaluates it, tells you what can be recovered and gives you a fixed quote. Recovery only starts when you approve it, and we work from a copy of the drive, never your only original.
Questions we get asked
Do you need the RAID controller too?
Usually not. We rebuild arrays without the controller. Do send the server or controller if it’s practical, along with any notes on how the array was set up.
Can you work on site?
For large arrays in Los Angeles, the Inland Empire and Ventura County, we can image drives at your premises so the data never leaves your building.
Start your recovery
Book online for a job number and shipping instructions, or call and talk to an engineer. We evaluate the drive and give you a fixed quote before any recovery work starts.
